Year 2 Topic and Story time Home Learning 18.01.2021 - 22.01.2021

Hi Year 2,

Below is your topic learning for this week. We are also going to be reading the story Gangsta Granny by David Walliams so the first 5 chapters are below for you to listen to. Have a go at each lesson and remember to send photos of your work to me using my email address on the class page. I will be expecting at least one email from you per week so that I can see your amazing work.

Please remember that any worksheets do not need to be printed, they are there to support and guide you and you can have a go at these activities on a piece of paper at home.

Art

Today in art we are going to use different resources to practice blending colours. We will be looking at the difference between warm and cool colours.
Watch the video below to help you identify warm and cool colours.

In school we will be using a range of media- oil pastels, chalk, wax crayons, watercolours, pencil crayons and poster paint, to blend different colours together. I have uploaded some videos below to show you how to blend colours using these different media.

Colour blending with oil pastels.

Colour blending with pencil crayons.

Colour blending with watercolours.

Colour blending with wax crayons.

Colour blending with Poster paint

If you do not have access to any of these art resources at home you could use Kleki or JS Paint, which are online painting tools, to have a go at creating your own colour blends.

Story time
David Walliams has kindly given permission for his stories to be shared by teachers for children working at home. We have decided to read Gangsta Granny to you over the next few weeks. We hope you enjoy chapter 1 - cabbagy water.

Tuesday

History

This week we are going to continue looking at Samuel Pepys. Look at the information you collected last week and recall any facts you can remember.

Follow the link to watch a video about his life. Whilst you are watching the video I would like you to have a go at taking some notes. If you hear something important you could pause the video so that you can write down the information on a piece of paper. When we take notes we don’t always have to write in full sentences. For example if the video says ‘He lived in London.’, you might just write ‘lived - London’. I have also attached a PowerPoint below with some extra information on that you could read or get an adult at home to read to you.

  1. Samuel Pepys information

I would like you now to use the information collected last week and you have learnt this week to create a fact file about Samuel Pepys. I have attached a link to an example layout of a fact file to help you. This is not needed to be printed off, it is just there to support you with how to lay out your work. If you are feeling clever you could even create this on the computer.

  1. Samuel Pepys Fact File

It would be really great if you could send me a picture of your work using my email address on the class page. I really look forward to seeing your lovely work.

RE

Today in RE we will be looking at the story of Moses. Watch the video below about how Moses became so important for the Jewish people.

God gave Moses some special rules called the ten commandments that he shared with his people.
I would like you to watch this video about the ten commandments.

All Jewish people try their hardest to keep all of these ten commandments.

Can you remember what they are? Write a list of the ones you can remember. If you have not got all 10, re watch the video to help you.

For your activity today I would like you to create a poster.
This could be for all of the ten commandments to share what you have learnt with somebody at home or you could just choose one and explain this commandment on your poster.
Try to use drawings and explanations to help whoever is reading your poster to understand what the ten commandments mean.

Remember to share a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page. I am really excited to see what you produce.

PE

For PE this week I would like you to have a go at one of the stories from Cosmic yoga kids. Maybe you could zoom off on a rocket or take part in a safari. It is completely up to you.

Music

Our key words for today are:

Composer - someone who writes music

Conductor - someone who leads the music and tells people when to play or sing.

Performer - someone who entertains an audience.

Last week we listened to No place like which is a piece of music that was written by composer, Kerry Andrews. I would like you to listen to this piece of music again and recap on all of the sounds that you can hear.
I would also like you to keep an eye out to see if you can see a conductor, they usually stand at the front.

We are going to start by being conductors, so I would like you to think of a hand signal for start and a different hand signal for stop.

If somebody at home is free to help you, you could get them to think of a sound. Show them your hand signals for start and stop. You are to practice using your hand signals to allow the person you are working with to know when to start their sound and when to stop. Swap roles so that you can have a go at starting and stopping your sound when you are shown the signal.
You could try this with a range of different sounds.

I would like you to now become a composer and think of between 3 and 5 sounds. Write down a symbol for each sound on a piece of paper and share this with the person you are working with.

To perform your piece of music you will need a performer and a conductor. The conductor will need to use the hand signals from earlier to let the performer know when to start and stop each sound in your sequence.

Science

This week, we are going to identify and name a variety of common animals.

Let’s begin by thinking about some animals and making some comparisons.

Click here to watch the video shown in the image below. Choose four different animals to compare. You may choose to talk about the animals to someone at home or make some notes using bullet points.

Can you think of some animals that live locally? Have you spotted any animals out of your window? Make a list of some local animals. What do you know about these animals. Are there any birds or mammals? Perhaps you have thought of amphibians, reptiles or fish? Use the image below to help. Did you identify any animals in this video clip? Click here.

Task: Choose an animal that lives locally. Create a poster or mini-factfile about your chosen animal. Try and use some of the key vocabulary displayed in the image above. You could include the following:

  • Where does your animal live? Draw or write about the habitat.

  • What does your animal eat?

  • What does your animal look like?

  • Draw a picture of your animal and label body parts.

Remember to send a picture of your wonderful work to Mrs Claxton or Miss Hughes using the email addresses on the class pages.

Friday

PSHE

Recap the names of the coins and the value of each one.

I would like to buy a new PlayStation 5. How do I get it?

I would like you to think about how I could get my PlayStation. I would like you to think about how much this is going to cost and how I am going to get the money for this?
How could I earn this money? Create a list of things I could do to earn enough money to get my PlayStation.
Remember I will need to earn the money as it is not right for me to take it from someone else.

I would like you to think to the future, what job would you like to do to earn money to be able to buy things when you are older? Draw a picture of you in this profession and carry out some research on the job role. Find out what you need to do as you grow up to be able to get this job when you are older.

Remember you can send a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page.
