Mental Health Awareness Month

The month of May is mental health awareness month. Here at school, we have been completing some activities to raise awareness regarding mental health. The children have been speaking about their emotions and feelings, sharing who they feel comfortable talking too, exploring acts of kindness, practising mindfulness and thinking about what can impact their mental health.

Below are some examples of some of the work we have been completing in school over the past few weeks.

Year 3

In Year 3, we have been looking at random acts of kindness. We have explored how we can be kind to others and support each other with small gestures. We have been learning about the positive impact random acts of kindness can have on others mental health. We have also talked about the importance of positivity and how it can help support no just ourselves but those around us.

Year 4

In Year 4, we have been exploring lots of different strategies to support us with our mental health. We have looked at calming strategies to support us if we are feeling angry, upset or overwhelmed. We have also explored different mindfulness activities such as yoga, balancing and meditation. Further to this, we have looked at the importance of a growth mindset and how this can support us with our learning. Finally, we looked at what makes each of us unique.

In Year 5 and 6, we have been looking at what impacts our mental health. We explored things which can have a negative impact on our mental health and strategies we can use to help support our mental health. The children came up with some brilliant suggestions such as: listening to music; going for a walk; spending time with friends; and many more. We have also been completing some self-portraits and writing positive affirmations next to them.
