Year 4 Topic Home Learning- 01/03/2021

This week we have a topic focus on Geography. On Thursday it is World Book Day meaning there is no topic lesson for that day.

Monday- Geography

Task One-

Record the date. What is the weather like?

Stand outside the front of your house. Spend a couple of minutes really looking at what you can see, big and small. Close your eyes and listen closely, try and smell the air and is there anything you can touch whilst standing outside.

What can you see, hear, smell, touch in front of you?

Everything you can sense make sure you record it, you may record it through writing or through pictures.

Here is a template of the senses to help. You can make your own template very easily by splitting your page into four sections.

Task Two-

Use a compass (there is an app in most phones) to find north. Draw a sketch or take a picture of what you can see when facing north (outside).

Please do this twice, once in the morning and once later in the afternoon.

I would like you to consider what is different between the two times you have completed this, and offer reasons why this may be.

Then, consider what is similar and why that might be.

Tuesday - Geography

Task Two repeated-

Use a compass (there is an app in most phones) to find north. Draw a sketch or take a picture of what you can see when facing north.

- Now you have repeated this activity twice. I would like you to consider what is different between the two days. If you look closely you will notice the picture may have changed due to numerous reasons. Also, consider what is the same and why that is.

I would like your sentences to start with:

There are similarities between the two days such as (give examples) and this may be because ( explain why).

There are also differences between the days when facing north such as (give any examples) and this may be because (offer reasons why).

Wednesday- Geography

Today we are going to be learning about Grid references.

Please watch the video below which explains four-figure grid references.

I have created a map with grid references. Can you help identify where the Roman Artefacts can be found using grid references?

Roman Artefact challenge

Here is a treasure map. If possible, a print out could be used, however if not, you can talk through the steps to identify where the places on the treasure map should be. Make sure you use the grid references.

Treasure map worksheet.

1. Go on a walk, whilst on the walk you could create a survey. Create different columns titled, walking, cars, cycling, bus. Then every time you see someone walk, ride or drive past you. Place a tally on your survey, and by the end of the walk you will be able to see what the most common mode of transport was when you walking.

2. Play catch with someone within your household.

3. Have a go at the speed bounce challenge. A video below explains the challenge.

RE-

Today we are going to learn about another religion called Hinduism.

Hindus are the followers of Hinduism. Hindus complete an act of worship called ‘puja’.

Here is a link to BBC Bitesize which tells us more about the Puja.

After watching the video can you answer these questions?

1. Where can Hindus worship?

2. What do they offer God to try and welcome him?

3. Why do they put a mark on themselves and the Gods?

4. What is aum?

All of the answers can be found in the video.
