Year 1 Topic and Story time Home Learning - 08.03.2021 - 12.03.2021

Hello Year One,

I hope you are all okay. I know it is very disappointing not to be together in school this week but we must keep safe and stay at home for one more week. I will be organising a class zoom so that we can catch-up and see each other virtually. The details for will be sent out via text.

Please keep in touch and send photographs of your learning at home to my email address g.claxton@win.jtmat.co.uk so that I can see how you are doing and provide some feedback.

If you have any questions or would like some extra support then please do not hesitate to contact on the above email address.

Speak soon.

Today we are going to be exploring the Sikh naming ceremony - Naam Karan. Watch the video below to find out about the naming ceremony and to find out your activities for today. If you do not want to watch the video, the information is below. I have also attached the YouTube video separately below so you can re-watch it if you want to. Once you have watched the video I would like you to take some time to research on the internet and find out what your name means.

What is a stereotype? Did you work out why the lesson is called pink and blue?

Draw a picture of yourself and add words and pictures to show all of the things that you like. You could choose to cut out pictures from magazines and create a collage. Send a photograph of your work to my email address.

Thursday

Science

For our other science lesson this week we are going to be taking part in the British Science week Poster competition.

The theme of the competition is ‘Innovation for the future’. We thought this was a great opportunity for us to follow on from our English lessons and think about how we could invent something to help keep our environment clean and protect living things in the future.

I would like you to think of what we could use to clear up an area or save living things from the rubbish left in their environment. Design your invention and create a poster with a labelled picture explaining how your invention is going to help our environment in the future.

Some ideas to support you -

  • Something that clears all of the rubbish out of the oceans, to make it clean for the animals.

  • Something that can help untangle animals that are stuck in litter that has been dropper.

  • Something that can help to clear the rubbish from an area and recycle it.

  • An alarm that goes off if somebody drops litter on the floor, making sure that they then use a bin.
