Year 2 home learning - 12.10.2021 and 13.10.2021

Hi Year 2,

I have put some work below to keep you busy over the next couple of days whilst you are at home.

Phonics

We are practicing the following words this week.

our two busy friend eye because

Can you practice writing them using pyramid writing one day and rainbow writing the next.

We are also learning about words that have ‘w’ sound in them made by the ‘wh’ grapheme, and the ‘r’ sound in them made by the ‘wr’ grapheme like -

whisper whistle whine where wrist wrapping wriggle wrinkle

Can you put all of these words into a sentence?

Reading

Please access MyOn each day and read a fiction book of your choice. Remember your log in is in the back of your Reading Diary.

Answer the following questions about the book you have read -

1) What characters were in your book?

2) Describe the main character in the story.

3) What was your favourite part of the story? Why was it your favourite?

In our reading lessons in school we have been learning about how to make an inference about how a character is feeling within an image. We have been acting like detectives to look for clues to help us with this.

Look at the following pictures. How are the characters feeling? How do you know?

Writing

Over the last few weeks we have been reading the story of The Hundred Decker Bus. Listen to the story again and remind yourself about what happened.

I would like you to think about changing the story to another passenger vehicle such as a train or a ferry. Maybe you could do some research to find out about your chosen vehicle.

Think about what the driver usually does during his morning routine, this could be the same or different to the original story.

Make a plan for your own story - we are going to begin writing these on Thursday in school.

Maths

In maths this week we are learning how to add and subtract two 2-digit numbers.

Watch the videos below and have a go at the activities to help you with this.

As well as these I would like you to continue to practice your number bonds - maybe you could teach someone at home our number bond song.

I would also like you to continue practicing your times tables on TT Rockstars - I challenge you to see if you can move up at least 2 levels before you come back to school. Remember your log in is in the back of your Reading Diary.

DT

We will be starting to make our vehicles in school so it would be great if you could have a go at home. If you can not remember your design maybe you could make a new one. Then use any recycling at home to have a go at creating your own vehicle.

PE

It would be really good if you could keep active whilst you are off. Follow the link below to find some ideas to keep you busy.

Stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing you in school soon,

Miss Hughes
