Year 2 Topic and Story time Home Learning - 08.03.2021 - 12.03.2021

Hello Year 2,

This week is very different to what we were expecting but it is only one more week until we can be back in the classroom together. I know you are all going to be amazing and will work hard at home this week ready to come back into the classroom next Monday.
I am so proud of all of you and cannot wait to have you all back in the classroom together. Keep working hard and remember to send me lots of photographs so I can see what you are up to.

Below is your topic learning for this week. We are continuing to read Gangsta Granny by David Walliams so the final 4 chapters can be found under story time for each day. Have a go at each lesson and remember to send photos of your work to me using my email address on the class page. I will be expecting at least one email from you during the week so that I can see your amazing work.

Please remember that any worksheets do not need to be printed, they are there to support and guide you and you can have a go at these activities on a piece of paper at home.

This week is science week and I was so excited for us to be completing these activities together in school. I would love you to have a go at these activities at home instead and send me your pictures so I can see all of your lovely work!

Our zoom call will be on Tuesday at 1pm, the details will be text out half an hour before it starts. I look forward to seeing you all then. Details of what you need to bring are shown below.

Monday

RE

Today we are going to be exploring the Sikh naming ceremony - Naam Karan. Watch the video below to find out about the naming ceremony and to find out your activities for today. If you do not want to watch the video, the information is below. I have also attached the YouTube video separately below so you can re-watch it if you want to. Once you have watched the video I would like you to take some time to research on the internet and find out what your name means.

PE

For PE today I would like you to complete the cosmic kids yoga adventure - The very hungry caterpillar. Practice using a range of different movements to tell the story.

Please can you make sure you bring 1 piece of work with you to show everybody and also have a piece of paper and a pen/pencil with you. I would like you to also create a bingo square for multiplication bingo - it needs to have 6 multiples of 2 (6 different numbers that can be found in the 2 times table - 0x2 - 12x2). Look at the grid below to help you .

Science

For today’s science lesson I would like you to go outside. Choose 2 different areas outside your house (maybe at the front and the back; or the grass and the patio). I would like you to spend between 10 and 20 minutes in each area, lifting up objects and moving things to find mini beasts. You then need to create a tally chart of what mini beasts you find in each area. You could use the mini beasts I have listed on the sheet below or make your own list. Once you come inside create a block diagram for each area you looked at and compare the data you have collected talking about the difference in the number of different mini beasts found and why this might be.

  1. Activity sheets - You do not need to print these, you could create your own. They are here to support you with how to set out your work.

Science

For our third science lesson this week we are going to be taking part in the British Science week Poster competition.

The theme of the competition is ‘Innovation for the future’. We thought this was a great opportunity for us to follow on from our English lessons and think about how we could invent something to help keep our environment clean and protect living things in the future.

I would like you to think of what we could use to clear up an area or save living things from the rubbish left in their environment. Design your invention and create a poster with a labelled picture explaining how your invention is going to help our environment in the future.

Some ideas to support you -

  • Something that clears all of the rubbish out of the oceans, to make it clean for the animals.

  • Something that can help untangle animals that are stuck in litter that has been dropper.

  • Something that can help to clear the rubbish from an area and recycle it.

  • An alarm that goes off if somebody drops litter on the floor, making sure that they then use a bin.

PSHE

We are continuing our topic on fairness. I would like you to read the story below. After you have read it, I would like you to think about how the behaviour affected Toby and how that would have made him feel.

It was a really windy day and I hate walking to school when it is windy and raining. I saw Toby just ahead of me and he had a lovely warm, woolly hat on his head, which I could see was keeping his ears toasty warm. As my ears were so cold, I decided to take Toby’s hat and wear it myself. Very quietly, I crept up behind him and snatched the hat right off his head! Toby was very surprised but I didn’t hang around to see what his reaction was. My ears were really warm all the way to school! When I got into the classroom, I could see that Toby had been crying and his ears were bright red! I didn’t care, though, because my ears are far more important than his and he needs to stop being a cry baby.

I would now like you to look at the situation cards on page 2 on the document below. I would like you to choose one at a time and act it out. With someone who is at home, talk about how the actions made you and others feel.

PE

Today I would like you to have a look at the circuit training activity cards below. I would like you to choose 10 activities that you are going to complete. Do each activity as well as you can for 40 seconds and then have 20 seconds rest before moving onto the next activity. By doing this you are creating your own circuit workout.
