Nursery

Welcome from Mrs Stringer!

Hello, welcome to our Nursery class page. We are delighted you have visited to see what we get up to here at Winshill Village. My name is Mrs Beth Stringer, I am the Nursery teacher here. I have a wonderful staff team supporting me and helping your children learn and grow, they are Mrs Smith, Miss Allsopp and Miss Alkins.

I have been teaching at Winshill Village since September 2025, prior to this role I have taught for 18 years in a primary school in Burntwood. I have extensive experience in Early Years having taught in Nursery for 14 years and 3 years in Reception. I love how each day is different, one day we can be looking at bugs and minibeast in the garden, another we can be exploring colours and creating our own art work.

Teaching young children is my passion, I love to see them develop, learn and grow as they progress and gain confidence in the environment. I can’t wait to support your children to “Dream Big and Learn Without Limits.”

Healthy Eating

Snack – In Nursery we have access to free fruit and milk, this is provided in the morning. In the afternoons we give the children a healthy snack including toast, fruit, breadsticks and rice cakes.  We encourage the children to try new foods and support them opening and peeling items where necessary.

Lunch – If your child stays for lunch please provide a healthy lunchbox.  All packed lunches will be checked at the start of lunchtime to ensure they are safe and suitable. Please do not send food or drinks in glass containers or bottles.

We kindly ask that every packed lunch includes:

  • One portion of starchy food (e.g. bread, pasta, rice, or wraps)
  • At least one portion of fruit or vegetables
  • A source of protein (e.g. meat, eggs, beans, lentils, or fish)
  • A dairy item (e.g. cheese, yoghurt, or a suitable alternative)

Item to Avoid in Packed Lunches

To support children’s health and safety, we kindly ask that the following items are not included in packed lunches:

  • Confectionery such as sweets, chocolate bars, or cakes
  • Sugary drinks (including fizzy drinks or high-sugar squashes such as Fruit Shoots) – water is the best drink to accompany food
  • Foods high in salt or saturated fat (e.g. crisps, sausage rolls) – these should be kept to a minimum
  • Choking hazards such as marshmallows, popcorn, boiled sweets, and jelly cubes

Food Safety and Storage

Please be aware that we are unable to reheat or refrigerate children’s packed lunches. To ensure food remains safe and fresh throughout the day, we recommend:

  • Using a clearly labelled insulated lunch bag or box
  • Including ice packs to keep perishable items cool
  • If providing a hot meal, using a child-friendly food flask designed to retain heat safely

Equipment

Nursery Fund

We do ask parents to pay a consumable charge of £1 per week for their child. This is to cover the cost of the additional snack that we purchase for the children (e.g. breadsticks, raisins, crackers, biscuits). This consumable charge will also be used towards other experiences that are provided for your child such as baking, for example. We will ask for this payment to be paid in cash on a half-termly basis.
The amount per half term will depend on the number of weeks in that period. Please see below for 2025/2026 charges;
