Reception
Welcome from Mrs Stringer!
Hello and a very warm welcome to our Reception class page! We are delighted that you have visited to find out more about what we get up to here at Winshill Village.
My name is Mrs Beth Stringer, and I am delighted to be moving into Reception. I am looking forward to continuing to support our children as they begin this exciting next stage of their learning journey.
I have been teaching at Winshill Village since September 2025. Prior to joining the school, I taught for 18 years at a primary school in Burntwood. I have extensive experience in Early Years, having taught in Nursery for 14 years and Reception for 3 years.
One of the things I love most about Early Years is that every day is different! One day we might be investigating bugs and minibeasts in the garden, while another could see us exploring colours, getting creative with artwork or discovering something completely new through our play and learning.
Teaching young children is my passion. It is a privilege to watch children develop, learn and grow, becoming increasingly independent and confident as they explore the world around them.
I am really looking forward to an exciting year in Reception and supporting every child to “Dream Big and Learn Without Limits.”
Key Information
PE – This will be on a Monday. Please send your child into school dressed in their PE kits.
Daily Routine – The children will enter and exit the classroom via the red classroom door. There will always be a member of our Reception Team to accept and dismiss the children. If you have any concerns or short messages, please pass them on. If you have concerns or would like a lengthier discussion, please request this with the staff member and we will arrange a more suitable time to ensure you have your concerns/ requests dealt with appropriately.
Snack – Fortunately, all Reception children have access to free fruit and milk. This is provided in the morning. If you feel your child would like toast and/ milkshake, this is at a cost of 50p per item. Please bring this in and an adult will collect from the child with their order. We will always try and encourage the children to tell the adult to give them a sense of responsibility. We do prefer this money to be brought in daily to enable the children to order themselves. If you want your child to bring in their own snack, we will allow healthy snacks e.g. their own fruit or fruit bar. No crisps chocolate sweets will be allowed to be consumed during snack time.
Lunch – Lunch is to be ordered in advance on the App. I understand that some children find it difficult to choose, but please be assured, with the free snack and milk available, we will always ensure the children eat enough in the day.
Equipment;
Daily – book folder, water bottle, labelled coat
To stay in school – labelled wellies, waterproofs, spare clothes (OPAL equipment)
Enrichment opportunities – we are so lucky in Early Years to have enrichments available throughout the daily provision, but during the year in Reception we will hope to offer even more exciting learning opportunities to further enhance their experiences. We will share these in due course.
Communication – We use the Tapestry platform to celebrate your child’s learning, and you can also engage with this through the communication tab. Here I can check any messages and any celebrations you want to share with us at school, for example, first time riding a bike, writing their name, bringing home and using learning from school. It is a partnership, and this platform allows us to work together to celebrate you child.

How Can You Help at Home?
Please read with your child at least 3 times per week. This is sharing a book, encouraging them to identify phonemes from their school learning and simply just enjoy sitting and looking at a book to foster that enjoyment of books and future reading.
