School Uniform

At Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School, we believe that wearing a smart and practical uniform helps pupils feel a strong sense of belonging, equality and pride in being part of our school community. A consistent school uniform also helps to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for everyone.

We are committed to ensuring our uniform expectations reflect our values of equality, inclusivity and value for money, giving families practical choices wherever possible.

School Uniform Expectations

Nursery Children

School uniform is not compulsory for children attending our Nursery. Nursery children are very welcome to wear school uniform if families wish, but there is no expectation for them to do so.

We simply ask that Nursery children attend in comfortable, practical clothing that is suitable for learning, play and outdoor activities.

Boys

• Grey or black trousers or shorts
• White or red polo shirt
• Red sweatshirt or fleece
• Plain black shoes suitable for school

Girls

• Grey or black trousers or skirt
• White or red polo shirt or blouse
• Red sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece
• Plain black shoes suitable for school

PE Kit (all pupils)

On designated PE days, pupils should attend school wearing their appropriate PE kit:

• White or red T-shirt
• Black shorts
• Black or grey joggers or leggings for colder weather
• Trainers
• School jumper or cardigan, or an optional red school hoodie

New for September 2026 - Red PE Hoodies

From September 2026, red hoodies are an approved additional uniform option for PE days.

On their designated PE days, children may wear a red hoodie as part of their PE kit instead of their usual school jumper or cardigan.

There is no expectation or pressure for families to purchase a red hoodie. Children can continue to wear their existing school jumper or cardigan on PE days.

Red hoodies featuring the school logo are available from My Uniform; however, the school logo is not compulsory. Families may purchase a suitable plain red hoodie from another retailer if they prefer.

Labelling Uniform

Please ensure that all uniform, PE kit, coats and other belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name. This helps us to reunite lost items with their owners quickly and keeps lost property to a minimum.

PTA Stikins Labels

Stikins name labels can be used to label clothing, shoes, bottles, bags and other belongings.

Families wishing to order labels can visit Stikins or call 01270 668076 and quote our school code 1740.

Using the school code also supports our PTA, with 30% commission from each order helping to raise funds for the school.

Additional Information

• Shoes should be practical and safe for school activities. Please avoid sandals, open-toed shoes, Crocs or high heels.
• For health and safety reasons, jewellery should be kept to a minimum. Small stud earrings are permitted but must be removed or covered during PE lessons.
• Hairstyles should be neat and appropriate for school. Extreme styles or bright hair colours are not permitted.
• Please ensure all items of uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Families are also welcome to purchase suitable non-logo uniform items from other retailers where appropriate.
